REAL TIME RESERVOIR EVALUATION SERVICES

Surface Logging Services (‘’SLS’’) provide data which are critical for the drilling, geology and reservoir groups of the Clients.
GEOLOG delivers SLS which include the monitoring of:
  • geological data obtained by physical evaluation of cuttings,

  • hydrocarbons data obtained from analysis of gases in and out,

  • surface drilling data (including mechanical, hydraulic and engineering variables, standard safety alarms for gas …) obtained using several high-end sensors and quasi real time enhanced analysis
SLS provide key information to evaluate the well in terms of hydrocarbons ratios, pressure balances, and relative positions of its lithological layers. SLS provide also early warning about dangers to ensure well safety and to prevent formations damages for optimum data acquisition and field productivity. Here are some examples of GEOLOG added-value services to the Clients, amongst many more:

Fractures: GEOLOG field teams monitor fluids flows in and out with both water-base and oil-base mud with such a precision that a loss due to a fracture as small as 5 liters (¼th of a gallon) is detected long BEFORE any rig equipment or drillers can detect anything from its tanks. This early fracture detection system triggers an immediate response. It enables to identify fractures while drilling, some of which can never be detected using wire line which takes place long after fractures have been drilled through. Modeling the types of fractures is possible (see quasi real time enhanced analysis here below).

Gas data quality: GEOLOG field teams monitor gas quality to maintain the total gas data ratio obtained from the gas detector and from the chromatograph at 1.0 with an accuracy of +/- 0.2. GEOLOG uses gas analysis equipment which are precise enough to provide reliable and quality gas data for reservoir groups. Such gas data offer critical information to evaluate the hydrocarbons content of reservoirs while drilling.

Gas ratios: GEOLOG field teams monitor gas in and out extracted from water-base or oil-base mud to identify hydrocarbons.  GEOLOG uses gas extraction and analysis equipment which are precise enough to provide reliable measurements for reservoir groups. Such gas ratios offer justifications to evaluate the hydrocarbons content of reservoirs while drilling. Evaluating the oil-water-gas contacts and the formation fluids changes are possible (see quasi real time enhanced analysis here below).

Mud heater and CVD: GEOLOG field teams use a mud heater and a constant volume degasser capable of maintaining constant volume, temperature and agitation to extract quality gas data from the mud.

Mass spectrometer:  GEOLOG field teams use a mass spectrometer capable to analyse hydrocarbons from C1 to Toluene. GEOLOG uses gas extraction and analysis equipment which are precise enough to provide reliable measurements for reservoir groups. Such gas data offer critical information to evaluate the hydrocarbons content of reservoirs while drilling.

Quasi real time enhanced analysis: GEOLOG field experts study the SLS information and correlate them with additional information coming from other service providers such as core analysis, wire line logs, … to identify ‘’recurrent patterns and down-hole signatures’’. In several different cases, quasi real time enhanced analysis permit to quantify and offer the justifications to accurately:

model the type of identified fractures and therefore fine tune the program of wire line logging, testing and fracing

determine the nature and the properties of the reservoir fluids in order to optimize productivity, by studying the gas while drilling together with other information such as testing data (logging while drilling, wire line logging, sampling dst), PVT ...

  predict pore pressure while drilling

evaluate the oil-water-gas contacts and the formation fluids changes

Quasi real time enhanced analysis require quality controlled information, knowledge of the field specifics, experienced & wise personnel working as genuine team members with the Client, and timely reasoning to properly take into account the inherent complexity which each Client and each decision-maker is facing to develop a field. Under extreme (very deep reservoirs or horizontal drains) conditions, SLS can even become the only reliable well information.
